CORONAVIRUS

For the first time in more than two months, since the Government representatives gave the daily bulletins on new cases, the daily briefing was not held in Nairobi but outside the County, in Machakos in the presence of the local Governor, Alfred Mutua.
It was Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe, after visiting one of the most modern hospitals dedicated to the Covid-19 emergency, who reported that another 52 people tested positive for swabs in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases within the country to 1,161.
Kagwe reported that 2,567 citizens were tested. The total number of swabs carried out so far has risen to 55,074 and the number of cases still active in the country has risen to 731.
"At the same time - added the Minister - we have discharged 5 other patients who have recovered from the disease and this has brought the number of people who have recovered to 380". It must be said that the deaths have been at a standstill for days now and that those who are found positive for the swab are almost always asymptomatic and in any case are not in serious condition.
Of the 52 new cases, 23 have been registered in Nairobi and 7 in Mombasa.
Kagwe announced that the Government will no longer import masks, gloves and other personal protective equipment because local manufacturers are now able to supply healthcare workers with products of comparable quality to international standards.
This is not yet the case for fans assembled in Kenya: their mass production will only be allowed after the WHO has ruled on their quality.
