It could only open in an enchanting setting like that of the Jiko Restaurant of the Leopard Point Beach Resort.
The International Week of Italian Cuisine in Malindi, as part of the World Week of Italian Cuisine organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was inaugurated yesterday, Wednesday, November 27, with a happening and lunch in the gazebo overlooking the sea of the elegant resort between Malindi and Mayungu.
The program was launched in the presence of two ministers from Kilifi County, the Minister of Tourism Nahida Mohammed and the Minister of Culture Maureen Mwangovya. For their part, in addition to the surprise of many specialties (those tasted by the excellent cuisine of Jiko and those on the bill), the applause for an initiative that brings added value to this destination, both in terms of tourism and culture.
"Through the culture of food you learn the habits of a people - said Mwangovya - it is very interesting to discover dishes and recipes, and it is really a great initiative of the Embassy of Italy in Kenya with the Artusi Foundation to have translated the recipes of the famous cook in kiswahili.
At the lunch of the opening day was also present the regional manager of hoteliers, Maureen Awuor, who praised the initiative of Italians involving ten restaurants and resorts and was supported by other sponsors, demonstrating that unity of purpose can only bring good results.
Minister of Tourism Nahida Mohammed reiterated that this is one of many examples of how to relaunch a destination.
"I hope that we can do many other things, especially together with the institutions, to promote and market the destination. We are working on many projects and we are always ready to join the initiatives," said Nahida.
Satisfaction was also expressed by Kate Mwikali, chairperson of the Progress Welfare Association of Malindi, the entity that created the Clean Up Days in Malindi and that gave the impetus to many other initiatives to improve the tourist destination.
In addition to the landlord Antonio Colleluori and the owners and managers of other malindine structures, there was also the well-known fashion entrepreneur Tony Papa.
