Covid-19 Kenya: 2 new cases but few tests

Still waiting for mass tests, recoveries rising

11-04-2020 by redazione

Just under five hundred swabs examined in the last 24 hours and only two cases detected.
Data that would authorize a cautious optimism, especially when compared to other current situations in the world, if it were not for the fact that from different parts of the country there are persistent rumors of other contagions and positivities given for certain that would not be in the records of the Ministry of Health. There is talk, for example, of six doctors from emergency facilities already affected by the virus, as well as of some members of parliament infected by the senator of the district of Rabai, in County Kilifi, who in turn had been in contact with Vice Governor Gideon Saburi, currently under house arrest and on trial for evading quarantine on his return to Kenya on March 13, after having been in Germany.
At a daily press conference, Kenya's Head of Health Department Mercy Mwangangi announced that the number of people infected with the Covid-19 virus in the country has risen to 191.
The last two positives would be a 2-year-old infant and a 32-year-old person, equally divided between Nairobi and Mombasa County. One would be a Kenyan citizen and one foreigner, but none of them have recently traveled abroad.
In total, 109 of the patients are male, while 82 are female.
Mwangangi also gave the contact numbers for the positives that have been monitored, they are 2054 so far, of which 1546 have been released after 14 days of quarantine, while another 508 are still in isolation and are being closely followed.
Two other patients who had contracted the virus have also been discharged, bringing the number of cured patients to 24.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Health also recalled the new laws that require the use of the mask everywhere and that require you to wash your hands frequently and respect the distances of at least one meter between individuals, in addition to not getting on private vehicles in more than two, including the driver.
