Fiorella Mannoia in Kenya for women

The singer helps Amref against FGM

12-01-2020 by redazione

The singer Fiorella Mannoia and the spokesperson of I Sentinelli Paladini have chosen to follow Amref in one of the most fascinating and remote areas of Kenya. From 7 to 11 January they will visit projects to combat female genital mutilation in Samburu County.
Amref - as it can be read on the Vita website and reported by Globalist.it - is involved in projects to combat gender-based violence represented by Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Africa and Italy. Female Genital Mutilation is a global problem that affects 200 million girls and women worldwide. In Africa Amref has been working on this issue for decades and has developed effective strategies and approaches, which today prove to be valuable and useful also for Italy and Europe, which are developing responses to the phenomenon that affects more than 500,000 women and girls in Europe and 80,000 in Italy.
Through the glances and words of two activists, who have always stood out for their commitment to human rights, Amref recounts the problem in Africa, its causes and the responses that a fully African organization has developed so that the solutions are sustainable, long-term and above all guarantee community ownership: changes cannot happen unless they are deeply rooted and guided by the communities themselves. The project in which this journey is included is supported by the Eight Per Thousand of the Waldensian Church.
Fiorella Mannoia, an extraordinary artist, has given her voice to historical and immortal songs but also to battles on human rights. Courageous and unfiltered, she is always in the front line for others. Historical friend and testimonial Amref.
Luca Paladini, visionary human rights activist, founder and spokesman of the Sentinelli, is today an authoritative voice of Milanese civil society. He has contributed to the construction of the Milanese network People (of which Amref is one of the promoters), protagonist of initiatives of great public impact, able to dialogue synergistically with the City of Milan.
