Galana Kulalu project's not dead

Odinga and Kingi visit Malindi inland

30-08-2019 by redazione

The great agricultural project of the valley of the Galana river, in the hinterland of Malindi, has not waned.
A few months ago, Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi expressed doubts about the finalisation of the more than 7 billion shillings work undertaken thanks to the funding of an Israeli company, Green Arava.
Yesterday the former leader of the opposition and head of the Orange Democratic Movement, Raila Odinga, went there with the same Governor to check that everything is ready for the resumption of the implementation of the second agricultural area of Kenya by extension.
"We came to check that the funds already allocated have been properly used and not dispersed - said Odinga - and we could see that a good job has been done so far.
The alarm was issued by the National Irrigation Board after the Israeli company in charge of building the irrigation system for ten thousand acres of land had moved its equipment elsewhere.
The president of Green Arava, on the other hand, confirmed that the work had only been suspended but would resume soon.
"We have never left and are still on the ground to implement the project, we have already spent 5.2 billion shillings and we are not backing out now," he said.
