Italians in self quarantine at the arrival in Kenya

Already 4 compatriots decide to wait 14 days to go out

06-03-2020 by Freddie del Curatolo

Those who come frequently to Kenya, who do not live there full-time, but do several times a year back and forth with Italy, for various reasons that still prevent them from moving or for their own will to enjoy intermittently a place they cannot do without, cannot but have respect for the people who live there and with whom they daily deal during their Kenyan stays.
In the tormented days of the Coronavirus, in which little Italy (in every sense, unfortunately, by now) has risen to the news and reality as one of the first and major hotbeds of the infection, the countrymen who land in Kenya certainly have a moral obligation, to monitor their health conditions and the small sign attributable to a flu, to isolate themselves.
This is also what the Kilifi County Health Minister, Anisa Omar, advises.
Some residents and holidaymakers who have just returned from northern Italy to Kenya have decided to do even more and better.
These days both in Nairobi and Malindi, four compatriots have decided for consistency and respect to observe the voluntary quarantine period of 14 days.
They do not want to reveal to malindikenya.net their personal details, but we can say for example that one of them is a very well known person within the Italian Cooperation realities.
Arrived last February 27th in Mombasa, he has been in voluntary self isolation for nine days, and he will stay there for another 5 days. As well as hardly ever leaving home, he keeps his distance from his employees and does not invite anyone.
If mobile phones were living beings, his could be the only contagion that can be transmitted.
"I decided to do this in silence, for me and for the others - explains the Italian - it is a form of respect due to the good I have for this country and for its people who already have its beautiful damnations. But also for the large community of my fellow countrymen on the coast, who even for the average age of many, could find themselves in difficulty. Mind you, I have never had the slightest sign of influence from my body, but I have preferred to take this additional precaution alone while waiting for the alleged maximum incubation times of Co-Vid19".
In a few days, once his period of "social responsibility" is over, he too will be able to attend the sea and savannah and the other places he loves, including those he has seen grow up thanks to the work he has always been promoter and organizer of but which would be little without the local people who perceive it, carry it on and are helped by it. At this moment monitoring oneself means protecting all this.
