Kenya has over 300 cases of positive Covid-19 virus that is plaguing the planet.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe at a daily press conference on Wednesday 22 April announced seven new patients admitted to government facilities after the swab confirmed the presence of the virus. The seven infected are all Kenyan citizens and add to the 296 registered until yesterday, bringing the total number of cases to 303 after 707 new tests have been carried out in the last 24 hours.
The Minister confirmed that there is concern about the immediate future, as cases have multiplied in recent days in neighbouring Tanzania and Somalia.
In the coming days, mass testing will begin thanks to 25 thousand tampons made available to doctors and health workers by the Government. According to Kagwe, the Government aims to test 250 thousand people by the end of June 2020.
Shortly before the conference of the Minister of Health, in which he announced no new deaths but nine recoveries, his colleague at the Interior and National Security Fred Matiang'i ordered the restriction of movements inside and outside of Mandera County, the fifth county to be armored after Nairobi, Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi.
The decision follows by one day that of Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi, who has decided to close the borders to Mombasa County and also to residents who travel across the border for work. Further decrees to try to limit the expansion of the virus of which in Kenya, according to estimates by the Ministry of Health, supported by the World Health Organization, 56% would be asymptomatic.
