Mid-August, virus travels with kenyans

Low cases in percentage, many out of Nairobi

16-08-2020 by redazione

Kenians on holiday (or at least in their native villages) for mid-August, and here the virus moves to rural areas and for the first time Nairobi records less than half of the cases of the last 24 hours in the country.
This is the main reading of the Covid-19 bulletin of Saturday, August 15, transmitted by the Health Director of the Ministry of Health Mercy Mwangangi from Afya House.
Yesterday, Kenya recorded 515 infections that bring the total number of cases to the threshold of 30,000 (29,849).
6,353 samples were analyzed, so the percentage of positives per swab falls even below 10%. This is the first time since August and it is a positive figure.
As you can see from the ranking, the small outbreaks are now distributed all over the country, while until two days ago the Capital was the main focus.
These are the cases in the counties: Nairobi (251), Kitui (41), Kiambu (33), Kericho (23), Kisii (19), Bomet (19), Nakuru (18), Homa Bay (16), Laikipia (12), Muranga (11) Migori (10), Nyeri (9) Uasin Gishu (8), Kajiado (8), Mombasa (7), Lamu (5), Narok and Busia have 4 cases each, Embu, Machakos, Nandi, Nyandarua, Wajir 3 each while Kakamega has 2. No positive swab in Kilifi County.
Patients discharged higher than the new positives: there were 672 and they increase the number of cured to 15,970. Only 65 were discharged from health care facilities, while 607 were following the home care program.
Unfortunately, 7 patients lost their lives due to the virus, bringing the total number of deaths to 472.
"We are happy that Kenyans in need of hospital care are returning to visit health care facilities," Mwangangi announced, "unlike before, when those in need of medical care stayed at home.  The mothers have started to return to give birth in hospital, in particular, I am impressed by the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where surgical bookings are returning to normal".
