Negative record in Kenya: 80 positives

CS Kagwe: "More tests, more cases"

22-05-2020 by redazione

Eighty new cases in the country, a new negative record for Kenya that goes hand in hand with the increase in swabs nationwide. In the last 24 hours the Ministry of Health has examined 3102 analyses, bringing the number of swabs carried out since last March 13 to 52,507.
Speaking at Afya House during the daily Covid-19 update press conference, Kenyan Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe also said that nine people have been released, bringing the number of virus cures to 375. For the fourth consecutive day there have been no deaths from the Coronavirus, at least on an official level.
"The data transmitted today show that the more swabs are done, the more cases of positivity are revealed - said Kagwe - this war cannot be won with the Government's effort alone, but we need all citizens who observe the rules".
As for the division of cases, Nairobi in the last 24 hours scored 41 cases, followed by Mombasa with 20 and Siaya with 7 cases, Wajir with 3 cases and other counties have one case each. 77 are Kenyan citizens and three are Somali nationals.
The cases attributable to Siaya are part of a single group of people who went to a funeral in Lake Victoria County from the Nairobi slum in Kibera.
"Someone signed a document that allowed these people to travel to bring the deceased back to their home village - said the Minister - that's why the police moved to investigate and inspect. Another aspect of contagion concerns mothers who are breastfeeding with symptoms. The youngest patient with the Covid-19 virus yesterday was a six-month-old baby".
