It is not so much the number of new positives in Kenya that has caused some anxiety in the country, but the percentage of cases compared to tampons that is rising again and returning above 15%, or 16.5%.
On the day when the Ministry of Health reports the highest number of Covid-19 infections ever, 1,554 out of 9,389 swabs in the last 24 hours (the percentage of foreigners, which is 28), 14 people died after contracting the virus. The total number of deaths has now risen to 1,441, Kenya is 65th in the sad list of 220 countries in the world, fifth in Africa behind Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Ethiopia. It just happens that all these countries also appear in the ranking of the least poor countries of the Continent.
In the same period 599 patients were discharged. 479 from the home care programme and 123 from the country's healthcare facilities. This brings the number of healings to 54,125.
There are currently 1,200 patients admitted to various healthcare facilities throughout the country, while 7,521 are in isolation and home care.
The number of patients in intensive care is also rising (72), 41 of whom are in ventilatory support and 30 in supplementary oxygen.
As regards the breakdown by Counties, Nairobi recorded 546 cases, followed by Mombasa with 159. Kilifi County (153) followed by Kiambu (96) and Kericho (68).
Meanwhile, yesterday at JKIA International Airport in Nairobi, 21 passengers on their way to Dubai were apprehended with arrest orders for providing false Covid-19 certificates to airport authorities.
"Our health officials in the ports of entry and exit are on alert and anyone who violates protocols will have to face the law - said Kagwe - Many have already been arrested and charged in court. I urge all travellers not to enter the statistics".
