Just when the Government of Kenya seems to have decided to reopen the country, next September 28th when President Kenyatta will pronounce, for two days now the percentage of contagions compared to the swabs performed in the country has been rising in a somewhat worrying way.
From about 7 percent on Monday, September 21, it rises to 7.8 of yesterday, Tuesday 22.
There were 139 cases of Covid-19 positivity reported, compared to 1774 tests analyzed in the previous 24 hours.
During Covid-19's daily briefing at Afya House, Health Director Mercy Mwangangi announced that of the positive cases, 125 are Kenyan and 14 are foreign. The youngest is a 4 year old child and the oldest is 82 years old.
In the distribution of contagions in Nairobi counties he leads with 46 cases, followed by Kisumu with 44, Mombasa, Kajiado, Kiambu and Kericho 9 each.
Laikipia County recorded 4 cases, Machakos 3, Nakuru 2 while Garissa, Kirinyanga, Kisii, Meru, Makueni Embu and Turkana all recorded one case each. Kisumu, the most important city of Lake Victoria, is reported as a new outbreak of the virus.
In the same period 198 patients were discharged, 46 from home care and 152 from hospitals throughout the country, bringing the total number of admissions to 24,147.
Unfortunately, nine patients lost their lives due to the disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 659.
Mwangangi said families can now participate in funeral rites as long as Ministry of Health officials are present as observers.
"From now on the families will be part of the funeral ceremonies - announced the Director of Health Services - Members will be allowed to safely perform traditional rites according to their norms, cultural and religious beliefs, always keeping their distance and using masks".
