Road to Mayungu is now open: stakeholders happy for the season

Roadworks will continue in 2018 to connect Malindi and Watamu

17-11-2017 by redazione

The diversion signs have been removed in recent days, the first section (2km) of the road that connects Casuarina to the fishing village of Mayungu, is permanently transitable 24 hours a day.
The project, which is part of the asphalt road of the entire coastal road that connects Malindi to Watamu, through Mayungu, Chembe Kibabache and Jacaranda Bay, will continue this year at least as far as the fishing village, but the second stretch has already been contracted, the work of which should start next year, to reach Malaika Beach Villas.
The definitive opening has been positively welcomed by the Italian entrepreneurs who have invested between Casuarina and Mayungu, but also by those who see the connection between Malindi and Watamu as a great opportunity for development for tourism in this part of the Kenyan coast.
"It's great news - explains Antonio Colleluori, owner of the elegant Leopard Point Beach Luxury Resort & SPA - that arrives at the opening moment of the winter season and allows us to think about resuming our Friday evening events and prepare other initiatives. In general, the road will benefit both localities and link services and opportunities.
Following the same line of thought as Alessandro Trentavizi, by Soko Soko in Casuarina.
"Waiting for other long-standing projects such as the airport - says Trentavizi - the coastal road linking Malindi and Watamu is certainly one of the growth prospects of this area. Not only for the activities that arise between Casuarina and Mayungu, but for all the activities in an area, that of Mayungu, which has yet to develop and offers many opportunities for tourism. Connecting Malindi and Watamu will do well to both tourist destinations, because today as today they are complementary, with their different offer of holiday and stay".
