Total bans to foreign tourists in Kenya

Kenyans, foreigners and resident who don't quarantine risk prison

18-03-2020 by redazione

And in Kenya came the day of the definitive stop for Italian tourists and all non-resident foreigners.
From now on, any Italian citizen and those from other countries that have cases of Coronavirus in their homeland, who is not a resident or even a Kenyan citizen, will no longer be able to enter the country and should already be rejected directly at the two air entry points of the country (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and Moi International Airport in Mombasa) and also at the land border with Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia. Tourist visas are abolished "sine die".
We use conditional visas because those who know the situation in Kenya and its high degree of corruption may think that some reckless fellow countryman is able to enter with his "powerful means". Don't be under any illusions, this time the deal is very serious and tourist visas will not be allowed, so anyone who manages to enter Kenya by extending a failure would still be in illegality.
As well as the Italians who entered the country in the last 14 days (also residents) will have to observe by decree an identical period of self-isolation and be found in the domicile reported at the airport. If they have not reported domicile, they can be found through specific searches and possibly punished. The Minister of Health Mutahi Kagwe announced that for those who will not respect the quarantine there is directly the arrest and detention in prison. Penalties can range from fines of 50,000 euros to 10 years imprisonment. "Only Kenyan citizens and foreigners with a valid residence permit will be allowed to enter the country on condition that they proceed in self quarantine or in a government quarantine facility. New arrivals are advised to report their presence to the authorities and proceed with self-isolation. A network of eyewitnesses has also been set up to provide information on foreigners who have recently arrived but also on Kenyans who have returned from at-risk countries and leave home safely.
As far as Italian residents or those who have been here for more than two weeks and are regular visitors to Kenya are concerned, they are asked to cooperate as much as possible by providing information useful to report some bad habits of newly arrived Italians.
