It's been almost six years since a rhinoceros was killed by poachers at the Lewa Conservancy in Laikipia County. Unfortunately, in recent days it has happened with two specimens of black rhinoceros from the south.
According to Lewa Conservancy Chief Operations Manager's operations manager, the rhinos were found dead and their horns cut and transported out of the fence.
The Lewa Conservancy is home to one of Kenya's largest rhinoceros colonies, last September 1 there were 105 black rhinoceros and 99 white rhinos.
Currently, the national population of black rhinos is estimated at just over 760 black rhinos and 620 southern white rhinos.
The Kenya Wildlife Service has confirmed that investigations to find those responsible for the killing of the two specimens have been launched immediately and are still ongoing.
The incident comes four months after another black rhino was found dead inside Lake Nakuru National Park.
