Tenth Malindi monthly Clean Up, Sat 11th January

From roundabout to casino with Police and Boda Bodas

09-01-2020 by Leni Frau

After the cleaning of the beach with the KWS last Saturday, this week on the eleventh of January, we return to the streets of Malindi to collect wandering garbage in partnership with law enforcement agencies and other local associations and organizations. The tireless work of the Malindi Green And Blue movement does not stop and celebrates the tenth consecutive appointment with the Malindi Clean Up.
This month's theme, security and collaboration between law enforcement and boda boda operators. The main street of the town from the roundabout to the Casino will be closed from 8am to 10am and boda boda will receive Malindi Green And Blue vests donated by the Italian non-profit organization Mondo Solidale and Edipro. The Chief of Police, OCPD Vitalis Otieno will be present at the monthly cleaning as well as many County and Town Hall managers. Participating in the Malindi Clean Up is important not only for the cleaning of the streets themselves, but to set a good example to the citizens, to the shops included in the routes each time different and to start raising awareness for the process of separate collection that should be implemented by the Municipality of Malindi within this year.
"We have already identified the land to build a large collection and recycling plant for plastic and other recycling materials - said during the cleaning of the beach the Board Chairman of Malindi Municipality, Aliasgar Kassamjee - in the meantime we must educate citizens to separate what they collect and make them find enough bins to sort and not leave waste around. Then it will also be possible to turn their delivery into money once the recycling machine has been effectively set in motion.
This is the ultimate goal to have a totally clean and healthy Malindi, to be able to create a profit with the garbage collected. With the need for daily earnings, the so-called "trash is cash" could prove to be an incredible success. See you on Saturday 11 at 8.15 am at the Total (Roundabout).
