Great success of the Mijikenda evening at Baby Marrow

Extraordinary event between music and poetry, with enchanted guests

Put the greatest poet of the Kenyan coast, the history of his homeland and its legends recited with passion. Add a songwriter that of the heart and true stories has made a way of life, even more than an artistic fact and put it all together with an art director Gian Paolo Tomasi and restful as Maurizio Mogavero, which has long decided to embellish his dinners with the mix of African and Western art forms and culture.
The recipe has proved successful, because it has become an evening entitled "Mijikenda, the earth and the membership", staged Saturday evening (exhausted tables, with people who could only listen from the bar) by organizing Freddie the Curatolo, creator of the show.
Amazing to see an audience of patrons of the restaurant so careful a poetry evening with songwriting inserts, in the evocative setting of paintings by Gian Paolo Tomasi. However exciting poems but harsh, bloody, recited in dialect Giriama from the only poet ethnicity Mijikenda, Kazungu Wa Hawerisa and translated by Freddie of Curatolo who led the evening. In between songs Parodi, which tell of the earth memories, bu and courageous border (combined local heroin Mekatilili Wa Menza) and cover fits perfectly as "Fiume Sand Creek" by Fabrizio De André (the Giriama as the Indians? ), knockin on heaven's door by Bob Dylan, who accompanied the memory of the great leader Katana Kalulu, and a heartfelt "Imagine" by John Lennon to review the most heartfelt poem of the evening, one on tribalism.
The evening was attended by the director of the Institute of Culture Italian Francesca Church who commented positively on the event.
"Malindi is the cultural center of Kenya for Italians - said - here are to be organized and lived events which then also will benefit from Nairobi. But the historical weight of the Swahili coast and the presence of artists and fans is very important."
All satisfied, with those present who know they have experienced a truly unique and engaging.
