In recent days, with the preview of the trailer, I launched the first podcast by Italians in Kenya, a space where, in a modern format increasingly used by readers who are gradually becoming listeners, we will talk about our presence in this country and our relationship with Kenyans, their environment, society, art, culture, tourism, and other sectors of the economy.

But the first “series” we are launching is not about current events, but rather the history of our compatriots in this country. It is not only a journey through the centuries and the intertwining histories of the two countries, but also a discovery of almost unknown situations and characters, developments and anecdotes related to our presence in Kenya and the many different migrations we have faced.
As I will recount in the first episode, it will be “a journey through time to understand who we are, since when and why we have been in this country, and who our predecessors were.”

From the legend of the first Italian to live in Kenya in the 14th century to the Consolata missionaries almost 600 years later, from the first adventurers to the noble landowners, from prisoners of war to entrepreneurs, hunters, libertines, benefactors... to mass tourism and the present day. An excursus resulting from research conducted more in the field than online, and from often ‘unpalatable’ news.
