Day after day, the Covid-19 situation in Kenya does not tend to improve and beyond the cold numbers that in comparison to ours or many other European countries might allow optimism, the fact that more than one in five of those swabbed continues to worry the Ministry of Health, although most of the cases recorded are in the capital Nairobi.
Yesterday, Tuesday 23 March, Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Abdì Aman spoke at Afya House, announcing 1127 new positives out of 5,393 swabs analysed in the last 24 hours, with the positivity rate rising to 22.1%, and spoke of a crucial time for the pandemic in the country.
"It would be better if Kenyans decided not to travel during the Easter period and refrained from all kinds of meetings and conviviality to protect themselves from the virus," Aman said.
Official deaths linked to Covid-19 are also on the rise: 25 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 2,048.
Meanwhile, 210 patients have recovered from the disease. The total number of cures has thus risen to 90,586.
There are 100 patients currently hospitalised in various health facilities across the country, while another 110 patients are in isolation and care at home.
Another 135 patients are already in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), 34 of whom are on ventilatory support and 93 on supplementary oxygen. Eight patients are under observation.
