In the last 24 hours Kenya has recorded another 25 cases of Covid-19 positive cases, bringing the total number of infected people in the country to 912.
Administrative Secretary Rashid Abdi Aman, in the usual press conference on the afternoon of Monday, May 18, said that between Sunday evening and Monday there were no deaths related to the Coronavirus and that at the same time 22 patients were declared cured and discharged, bringing the total to 336, more than a third of total cases, while the cases still active are 526.
"Of the new cases, 23 are male and only two are female - said Abdi Aman - the youngest patient is 22 years old and the oldest is 50. In the last 24 hours we have carried out 1139 swabs that bring the total number of tests in the country to 44851".
In the face of a relatively quiet day, there are the first cases in three counties of Kenya: Taita Taveta and Garissa with two positives each and Meru where only one case was recorded. The others infected during the day are in Kajado, on the border with Tanzania (6), Mombasa (5), Nairobi (3), Kiambu (3) and Kwale (3 also on the border of Lungalunga).
In addition, 53 truck drivers were positive on the Kenyan-Tanzanian border (51 Tanzanian and 2 Burundian nationals) and denied entry visas.
Rashid Abdi Aman then urged the Kenyans to comply with the Ministry's directives to ensure that the results obtained in the fight against the pandemic are not frustrated.
To mitigate the alarming rate of positive cases emerging on the Kenyan-Tanzanian border, the Administrative Secretary announced the opening of a laboratory in Namanga, on the Kenyan-Tanzanian border, to speed up testing and the release of results.
