Kenya is among the first countries in the world to which Italians wanted to return immediately after the end of the pandemic restrictions, but there are also many Italians who would like to visit it for the first time and, who knows, think about moving there.
Preferences were collected in the first two weeks of March by the main online booking and travel search sites.
The tail end of summer on the Kenyan coast and the corresponding prolongation of low temperatures in Italy has certainly helped to position Kenya well above other European destinations and in relation to this the capitals of the western states, usually very popular destinations for our compatriots, have come to lose up to 70% of tourists compared to three years ago (in March 2020 it was already almost all blocked9:
In the special ranking of hot, tropical destinations, for the first time in many years Kenya also overtakes Zanzibar, both because the so-called "repeaters" couldn't wait to come back, and because Kenya is notoriously better reached by scheduled flights than the Tanzanian island, whose tourism depends almost exclusively on charter flights.
Charter flights are slowly resuming routes to Santo Domingo, which was already preparing to reopen the covid free corridors, but which is not pulling in this period as much as Kenya. As well as Thailand, whose programming has restarted just in these days.
However, Asia, which is always considered a possible hotbed for other Covid-19 variants, does not excite Italians who want to travel again.
We at Malindikenya.net also receive many requests, by email and in the messenger boxes of social spaces such as the "Italians in Kenya" group and the "Malindikenya.net" page on Facebook, from those who want to finally come and see a place of their dreams, asking for clarification on the possibility of moving there.
We'll see in the coming weeks if this auspicious trend will be confirmed. The interest for the Easter vacations is high, but the fear of the worsening situation in Europe is tangible and worries. There is also anxiety about the future of the economy and some reservations have already been canceled. The rest will surely happen last minute.
