Official: Kenya doesn't require PCR jab

How to be sure to go in Italy from Kenya

07-03-2022 by Freddie del Curatolo

After days of uncertainty, typical of this period of the end of the pandemic in which the rules are not yet clear, finally the issue of whether or not the PCR swab is mandatory for foreigners returning to their country of origin, as well as for Kenyans who go abroad, is becoming clearer.
First of all, we must consider the restrictions still in place in the countries of arrival, starting from Kenya.
If some in fact require the molecular swab even for those who have a Green Pass or vaccine certificate, and others require it even if travelers are only in transit through their airports, there are countries like Italy that a few days ago have eliminated these obligations and requirements for those who arrive.
So the Kenyan government, as per the statement of the Kenya Airports Authority that we attach below and that you can also print, has declared that the PCR swab on exit from Kenya for them is not necessary.
Point 11 of the statement, as you can read in English, also clarifies that at this point it remains the discretion of the national airlines, which may require it as a condition for boarding or, as mentioned, in the case of transit.
It is worth remembering that for safety, those leaving Kenya should first ask the airline with which they will fly for assurance that it does not require PCR or antigen, and possibly get a written or cell phone response.
In case of only verbal assurance (as it is often the case with Ethiopian Airways, which in any case has declared to the travel agents that it does not require any kind of swab result), it is advisable to print our attachment and in case present it to the airport authorities or at the check.in.

Why do we say this?
Because it has happened to outbound compatriots, particularly in Mombasa, to be checked by airport agents who, in addition to the vaccination certifications that remain mandatory for travel, have asked them for the PCR. It is not their right to do so and if it is an attempt to receive a "bribe" and you do not want to bow to this bad habit that sometimes Kenyan institutions have, there are two solutions: ask them to call the on-site manager of the airline with which you are leaving (if you are sure that this airline does not require the PCR) or show the screenshot from your cell phone.
