Malindi continues to set the standard, in the truest sense of the word, for its initiatives that have a twofold objective: to improve the habitat and the environment, and to spread the culture of safeguarding its territory in the new generations.
With this spirit, the educational-environmental movement Malindi Green And Blue, of which Malindikenya.net is a part, had started in 2019 to organise initiatives such as waste collection once a month, every second Saturday.
What at the beginning seemed just "an exercise in style" in the organisers' minds was meant to lead to a general awareness of the citizens, which is certainly more felt today than it was then, to the relationship with the institutions that now recognise the "Monthly Clean Up" as an established habit in Malindi, to that with the schools, which continue to participate actively and finally with the associations and private individuals who are the end users of plastic and other recyclable waste (on those we focus, also because the Earth is unfortunately full of them) and who pay the willing young people who, at the end of the collection of the Malindi Green And Blue volunteers, transport the sacks full of waste on the vehicles of the County or of members who make their own vehicles available, and go and sell them, earning what if they learnt to do every day, would earn them a salary.

Fortunately, after three years and a pandemic that has fragmented but also strengthened the initiative, someone is doing it.
