At this time when solidarity with the Kenyan people is particularly concerned with the food emergency caused by the sudden climatic changes and consequently the great drought that grips the country, an initiative dear to residents and tourists who are fond of "off-road" excursions that had stopped during Covid-19 and post-pandemic is returning to Malindi.
It is the "Malindi Raid," which we would call a "convivial rally" open to anyone who owns a 4x4 off-road vehicle or even an enduro bike or similar and which combines the passion for motors with that for African Nature, without forgetting the pleasure of getting together and also the inevitable pleasure of competition. The initiative was created years ago by enthusiast and industry expert Sergio Peroni. Roman, a frequent visitor to Malindi for years and a professional organizer of races and championships in Italy.
"This year our mission is to bring food aid to the kids in the hinterland of Malindi," Peroni explains, "which is one more reason to register and participate in the meet, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, starting and returning to the Bar Bar. It will be a way to hurtle and compete (albeit in a relaxed manner, but still exciting and with that right adrenaline quotient...) on the roads leading to the Tsavo, and then meet for a social lunch at the Karibuni Onlus farm in Langobaya, where our solidarity goal will be carried out."
In fact, the "Malindi Raid," through Karibuni, will support the food project that provides free meals to school students in the Malindi hinterland, at a time when malnutrition is evident in many of them, takes away energy and discourages them from attending schools.
In fact, the registration fee for each vehicle will not be in cash, but in basic necessities such as wheat and corn flour, beans, sugar and seed oil. A supply worth Kes. 5000 per crew, so that in the early afternoon all participants can directly attend the food distribution at a school in Langobaya.
Here is the day's program and information on how to participate:
