In 1975, when Memo Remigi wrote his biggest hit, "Innamorati a Milano", later interpreted wonderfully by Ornella Vanoni, he thought that for a couple to find themselves chosen and lost in the passion of feelings in the Lombard metropolis was much more unlikely than elsewhere, and so it had to be true love.
"No flowers, no greenery, no sky, no nothing", when you might expect as the setting for an idyll at least a flowery meadow with singing birds and a breathtaking view.
Instead, there you are, with department stores instead of a beach, in the midst of 'lots of people' instead of a two hearts and one hut situation. And yet, you can read between the lines, Milan has its charm and in the end love triumphs, and it is not certain that a relationship born "in this impossible place", as Memo sings, will become more solid and conscious.
It must be admitted that falling in love in a place like Watamu, or even Malindi, where the Brianza-born singer and composer, now 83 years old, has had a house and spent his holidays for many years, is much easier, but according to "Remigi's law" it could also be more ephemeral.
This is the reason that prompted the duo that sings them to the Italians in Kenya, Freddie and Sbringo, to revise (or ruin, depending on the listening points) the beautiful suite by the author who loved to entertain the Coral Key audience, transforming it into "Innamorati a Watamu".
Forget skylessness, here as we know the great celestial vault of the equator captures you as only an overwhelming passion can, as do the crystalline waves of the ocean. From the department store to a kiosk under the palm trees, from the people in a hurry in the gallery to the quiet, dangling, smiling people on the long beach of Turtle Bay.
The only variable, where the irony of the duo who created the series of parodies that are part of the "Festival di Sardegna Due" prize competition, is not WHERE to fall in love, but WHO to fall in love with.
Because the ease with which one opens one's heart, amplified by the fact that the beloved person materializes in the guise of a sinuous dancing panther or a statuesque and muscular beached lion, could hide a disappointment more burning than the African sun.
