This Saturday, 25 October, Malindi will be decked out in pink. Not for fashion, even though the evening is organised by a fashion designer, but for love.

Not for vanity, but for dignity.

At the Malindi Sea Fishing Club, from 4 p.m. onwards, the Pink Soirée: United for Women Fighting Breast Cancer will take place, an event that is not just a social occasion but a collective gesture of empathy, a social embrace, a caress that becomes concrete solidarity.

Behind the idea is the determination of Charity Karimi, entrepreneur and founder of Stella Customized Kenya, who for years has believed that every woman, in every village and town on the coast, has the right to adequate care and human support when illness enters the home without knocking.

This year, the Pink Soirée has an even more human face: that of some women from Malindi who are facing the difficult path of cancer treatment, often with insufficient resources and enormous logistical obstacles.

The funds raised during the evening will go to them — a small relief, but also a big message: you are not alone.

The formula is simple and profound at the same time. There will be live music, but also meaningful silences. There will be a mini fashion show, but not with professional models: walking the catwalk will be influential women from Malindi, volunteers for one evening, who will put their steps at the service of the cause.

They are not walking the catwalk to show off, but to support — and in that symbolic act, there will be all the grace of courage.

In the Fishing Club garden, a tent will be set up for free breast cancer screening, in collaboration with the Malindi District Hospital. An oncologist will be present to provide information, answer questions and offer advice. Because awareness is the first cure, and early diagnosis remains the only real scientific miracle that saves lives.

During the evening, participants will hear the testimony of a survivor and the authentic voice of a woman currently undergoing treatment. These will be stories of strength and fragility, of good days and desperate days, of smiles that remain despite everything.

And then there will be the Wall of Honour, a tribute to the women who did not make it but left their example as a legacy. Because those who leave do not disappear if they remain in what inspires.

Admission to the Pink Soirée will be possible with a pink solidarity bracelet, at a cost of 1,500 Kenyan shillings. It is a small price to pay to be part of a great collective story. All proceeds — every shilling collected, every gesture of generosity — will go towards directly supporting the Malindi women selected as beneficiaries.

This is not just charity. It is a movement that reminds us all that life is not fought alone.

And that, even in a corner of the African coast, an October evening can become proof that solidarity is the most elegant of revolutions.
