Proactive meeting to enhance Kilifi County

Partecipation, concerns and solution for tourism sector

19-09-2019 by Freddie del Curatolo

Participating, understanding, dialoguing and proposing are the basis for trying to achieve results.
Us people from the Kenyan coast have been saying this for a long time, but the dogma could be applied in any community in the world.
Without active participation, if little is already achieved, no results can be achieved among those so difficult to achieve today.
Whether we talk about the environment, infrastructure, less bureaucracy, the same rules for all, synergy between public and private ... in any case without comparison nothing can go forward harmoniously and without unity, cohesion everyone will continue to count their small benefits that, in the case of Malindi and tourism, have never led anywhere. Many small flowerbeds, different and fenced in, will never make a park.
This is the meaning of the meeting that took place yesterday between the Department of Tourism of the County of Kilifi and the tourist industry of the area and representatives of associations related to it. Among those present were, in addition to the Minister of Tourism Nahida Athman Mohamed and the Head of his Office Hassan Sumba, the regional president of the Kenya Association of Hotel Keeper (KAHC) Maureen Awuor, the head of the Kenya Coast Association of Tour Operator (KATO) Philemon Mawala and the director of the Chamber of Commerce of Kilifi County Majid Swaleh.
It was from Maureen Awuor that the most thundering "trips" for the County arrived, with precise questions about the timing of the works and infrastructures, the current real situation of the international airport issue and other requests that those who have been reading our portal for some time now know very well.
The debate has been long and sometimes heated, but certainly also productive because it will lead to the establishment of committees that will deal with the relaunch of the tourist destination under a single "brand" and there has been the admission of some "error of youth".
"We in the County have recently started to promote the territory at a tourist level - admitted Sumba - that's why we ask for the collaboration of the private sector and its professionals in marketing.
The meeting anticipates the next creation of the Kilifi Tourism Board, a group of institutional and private experts who will seek together directions and solutions for the relaunch of destinations in the region.
In this perspective was welcomed the official presentation of the members of the executive committee of the municipality of Malindi, who will work in concert with the County but directly for the town, which has returned to be a municipality. As a result, as Yvonne Mafunga, one of the members, said: "whether we like it or not we will be public figures and we will interact to improve Malindi in all its aspects, bearing in mind that Tourism is the main one that through the resources it generates can help all others".
