Kiboko River Camp, rebirth of an exclusive and inclusive lodge

News of a magical place at the gateway to Tsavo East

Today we celebrate the rebirth of a historic lodge in the savannah closest to Malindi and Watamu, at the gateway to the Tsavo National Park. A rebirth in the sign of elegance, comfort and well-being of the soul, nestled in one of the most iconic settings in the Galana river valley.
It is Kiboko, now renamed Kiboko River camp, because it is increasingly in symbiosis with the river that gives the entire coastal hinterland unforgettable landscapes and the survival of thousands of wild animals that attract travellers and nature and animal lovers from all over the world.
Kiboko River Camp has been redesigned with taste, elegance and vision by owner Siro, a regular visitor to Malindi, and has recently reopened its doors, continuing to improve its appeal and services day by day.
First and foremost, it is a safari camp designed for everyone, but really everyone. It is the first lodge without architectural barriers and totally accessible to the disabled. Not least because the owner Siro is a person with disabilities and is the first to want to enjoy this paradise and make his guests enjoy it. In addition, it embraces the theme of eco-sustainability, which here is by no means a fad, but a requirement and a sign of respect for the land: electricity and hot water constantly guaranteed by solar panels (although there is a generator, just in case) and continuous water recycling, to avoid waste.
Comfort, pleasure and practicality are therefore exalted in every aspect. It was built in African style and with local materials, and thanks to the help of two important Italian architects in the early stages of reconstruction, local consultants and a dedicated workshop of craftsmen and workers, Kiboko now has the trappings of an exclusive oasis, with attention to detail and great potential. Manager Alan Rispoli personally takes care of every aspect, with special mention for the cuisine, which is not usual to find close to a national park. Well-prepared dishes and trained cooks, great choice and variety of food, make it a ‘unicum’ in these parts.
Kiboko's six tents all point towards the river, with a priceless view. The glass doors allow the majesty of Africa to penetrate even into the spacious and comfortable rooms, with attention to every aspect and with all the comforts, from air conditioning to the mini-bar, to the immense bathroom (also designed to allow even a tourist in a wheelchair to move around comfortably). They all sleep four, with a double bed and possibly two singles, and there is a larger suite, consisting of two communicating rooms, for large families or groups of friends. Due to its exclusivity, it is also suitable to be booked by groups or for events, and enjoyed without other people.
The idea of relaxation and complete immersion in the surroundings is completed by the infinity pool on the Galana River, where hippos and crocodiles can also be admired. In this totally ‘wildlife friendly’ place, a water reservoir has been dug for all species to drink and the cameras at the pond show zebras, gazelles, giraffes, elephants and even a beautiful family of lions, making use of the water reservoir, which becomes essential in certain seasons. Guests can watch the animals move freely on their mobile phones, via an app provided to them during their stay at the camp.
The idea of relaxation is also enhanced by the use of local stones, which have a high energising power. Kiboko River Camp espouses the Taoist philosophy of Feng Shui, where the vital elements (earth, water and wind) come together and provide important benefits to those who stay here. After all, where better to find primordial well-being than in Kenya, the cradle of humanity?
