It’s almost mid-2026, and Malindikenya.net is about to celebrate its 18th birthday. It was July 14, 2008, when it all began, and ever since then, every day, I, Freddie del Curatolo, have been keeping you informed about everything related to Kenya in Italian and for Italians.

Thanks to you, our readers, we managed to weather the storm of the tourism slump in 2011, following the Westgate attack in Nairobi, and the years of the pandemic. This year, we face a new challenge: online advertising—banners and pop-up ads—has become increasingly intrusive, often covering the text of articles, and many readers are complaining. Some have even stopped following us after all these years.

For me, readers are everything—the driving force that makes me write, do research, respond to the dozens of emails I receive weekly, moderate social media groups and pages linked to the site, record explanatory or entertaining videos, and, most recently, turn you into listeners through my podcasts.

So, after launching subscriptions for this year (because everything I do has always been free for you) and collecting 132 small and large donations—ranging from 3 euros to 1,000, just to give you an idea—I’ve decided to limit the advertising invasion. According to a projection, I’ll lose about 3,000 euros in revenue per year. Well, for those who haven’t yet made a small contribution to show their appreciation for my work, I’d say now is the time!

Likewise, anyone who wants to advertise through the website and social media, taking advantage of the 3,000–4,000 daily readers, will certainly benefit from their donation and gain good visibility on search engines like Google.
