CORONAVIRUS

Kenya has exceeded 1.5 million doses of the vaccine, of which about 1.3 million belong to the first doses and the remaining 520,000 to recalls.
At present, the vaccine has been switched from Covishield, the AstraZeneca vaccine produced under licence by the Indian institute Serum, to Oxford's Vaxzevria, so that those who have been 'recalled' will have their certificates changed from 'Covishield' to 'AstraZeneca', and in the event that Kenya reaches agreements with the countries of the European Union and the other nations that join the system, they will be able to come into possession of the so-called 'Green Pass' which will give them the right to move within the countries of the agreement without the need for quarantine.
For the moment, however, it would not be possible for Kenya under any circumstances and, as reported by the Henley Passport Index, the organisation that since 2006 regularly monitors the credibility of passports worldwide for travel purposes, after this period of pandemic there are still 54 governments that have not reopened to Kenyan citizens.
However, the Covid-19 situation in Kenya is fortunately not worsening, despite the forecasts (incidentally negative) of the World Health Organisation, which had linked the arrival of the cold season (and it is record cold in some areas of the north of the country and also in the capital Nairobi) and that of the delta variant with a possible resurgence of the virus and related serious cases. This has not yet occurred and indeed, in the Lake Victoria basin where the so-called Indian variant first arrived, cases are slowly thinning out.
Few swabs have been taken, but the number of patients admitted to the country's intensive care units, which is a sensitive figure that cannot be manipulated, remains below the warning level, i.e. 120 patients are still admitted. It is difficult to understand the reliability of updates on the number of deaths, since the Ministry of Health often lags behind. In the last 24 hours, the bulletin reports only one, compared to only 188 new cases of coronavirus and a rate of 8%.
