This is the trend illustrated by the Kenyan Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe, who announced 11 new cases and one death in the country in the last 24 hours, net of very few tests, at the usual press conference held today, Monday, April 20, at the Kenyatta National Hospital. Two patients have been declared cured of the virus and released from government health facilities.
The number of patients dealing with Covid-19 is now 281 and Mombasa is becoming one of the most worrying outbreaks in the country. Even today seven out of 11 cases come from the coastal city, all from the Bondeni district. The other four are residents of Ruaka in Nairobi.
"No one has a previous history of travel abroad," explained the Minister, "the seven in Mombasa come from our quarantine centers, while the four in Nairobi have been identified through contacts by our surveillance teams in Ruaka.
The age of the newly infected varies between 11 and 80 years. Among them there is also a doctor.
In the meantime, the continuous work of isolation, treatment and contact tracing continues.
"We have also distributed 4759 personal protective equipment and 237 assorted sets - explained Kagwe - already trained 30 thousand health workers and the training process is not yet finished".
Kagwe has also transmitted the first data relating to the new decree for those who break the national curfew: in two days have already been forty-five people who have not respected the evening and night lockdown.
