In Kenya, the 400 cases of Covid-19 positive were exceeded.
The fifteen cases announced today, Friday 1 May by Kenyan Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe
brings the total number of infected people in the country to 411.
The Minister, speaking at Afya House in the usual press conference, revealed that in the last 24 hours 1434 people have been swabbed, about double the average of those tested to date. This is part of the Government's new measures that are gradually increasing tests and controls. Inevitably it will also increase the number of positive patients and even deaths. In just one day, an unprecedented event, 4 more people died, bringing the total to 21. At the same time 6 healings occurred, after the double swab after days gave negative results. The number of discharged patients has now risen to 150.
According to these official data, Kenya had a healing rate of 36.5% and a mortality rate of 5.1%.
Mutahi Kagwe revealed that his ministry is monitoring 800 contacts, alluding to a possible increase in cases.
Of the 15 confirmed cases, Mombasa registered the majority with 11. The Health Directorate also pointed out that the Kawangware district of Nairobi has become an outbreak of infections, revealing that the area has so far registered 13 confirmed cases of Covid-19.
Other sensitive data transmitted by the Ministry of Health that help us to understand the pandemic in Kenya: men and women are almost equal in contracting the virus (52% males, 48% females) but it is men who suffer the most and die from it, women have a higher rate of recovery.
Kagwe also announced that no person between 15 and 30 years of age has succumbed to the virus, giving it a stronger immunity, however, warned against recklessness, arguing that they could be asymptomatic carriers of the virus and pose a danger to others. Confirming the increase in testing throughout the country, the Minister recalled that the emergency is also high in neighboring countries and that precisely because of the outbreak of the virus in Somalia, Mandera County has been closed.
