The areas frequented by international tourists, who have been arriving in abundance in Kenya these days via the two airports of Nairobi and Mombasa, are safe and quiet and have never been affected in the slightest by the anti-government protests of the young people of Generation Z.
This is affirmed by hoteliers and all Kenyan tourism-related associations and organisations.
The Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF), the national umbrella body of the private tourism sector in Kenya, with the main mandate of promoting policies to grow, protect and sustain the tourism sector, issued a statement clarifying what has happened so far in the country and especially its effects on areas affected by passenger traffic, such as airports, and their holidays, such as the coast and national parks or reserves.
‘The demonstrations are, however, always intended to remain peaceful. They are largely located within urban centres and Kenya's tourist sites and attractions are not directly affected. They are in no way targeting tourists and the thousands of tourists currently in the country, who are all safe and enjoying their holidays as planned. Tourist circuits throughout the country have not reported any incidents, while circulation at airports, airstrips and hotels continues as normal and all have remained accessible'.
Even for the planned demonstration to ‘occupy Nairobi's JKIA airport’, there were no incidents that could minimally affect the operation and schedules of the international airport.
‘However, the KTF Safety and Security Centre remains on alert, actively monitoring the situation and sending real-time updates as the situation arises. We encourage all travellers to keep informed through reliable sources and official channels to ensure that your visit to Kenya is as enjoyable and memorable as ever,’ the statement concluded.
