Hotels on the Kenyan coast sold out for Christmas holidays, the tourism industry smiles at least as far as hotel occupancy is concerned. President of the Kenya Coast Turism Association Sam Ikwaye has confirmed very positive figures for this period. Surely Mombasa is the destination that takes the lion's share, especially thanks to the holidaymakers coming from the capital. For days now there is no longer a hotel room or apartment for rent and even the last beds left free have been sold at a very expensive price.
Not unlike the situation in other tourist destinations such as Diani and Watamu, frequented mainly by foreigners. Again, this is close to 100% occupancy, and already many people are wondering how much lower the percentage will be after 6 January.
Paradoxically, it will be Mombasa that will lose more, while Malindi and its surroundings, which do not only live from domestic tourism, will suffer less from the vertical drop in attendance, but in any case it will be necessary to understand how much the "long wave" of the holidays at the equator this year will make the hoteliers happy. By now, however, holidays on the coast have become a "must" for Kenyans, to which are added other travellers from different backgrounds. If we focus on multi-ethnicity, not only hotels but also restaurants and public places will have their benefits, otherwise we will have to redouble our efforts only during the high season and then close from March to August to limit the damage.
