Plane crashes in Malindi, dead in flames

Number and nationality of victims not yet certain

A light aircraft with crew and passengers on board, crashed a few minutes ago in the area of the Malindi airport and caught fire in the Kwachocha area, on the outskirts of the town. The accident probably occurred shortly after take-off, with initial reports from witnesses that the plane landed on the side of the Malindi-Mombasa road, at Empire Plaza.
According to malindikenya.net, there were no Italians on board the aircraft.
A video posted on an X profile shows the plane enveloped in flames and people fleeing. According to other witnesses, there would definitely be one dead person and the plane would have crashed, also hitting some bodabodas, the motor taxis parked by the roadside.
According to other unverified sources, there would be no survivors and other people walking on the road would be enveloped in flames and would join the victims on the plane.
However, the causes of the accident and the number of people on board the aircraft are still unknown. The local authorities have not yet made any statements following the accident, while the flames have not yet been fully extinguished and rescue vehicles have arrived on the scene. Long queues of motorists are forming on the Malindi-Mombasa route.

According to sources gathered by malindikenya.net, two of the three victims already recovered are a driver and a passenger of a motorbike, who were allegedly hit by the falling plane. A third death would be a passenger on the plane. Still unknown are the causes of the breakdown that led to the accident and whether there are any other victims, particularly pupils from a nearby girls' school, who were allegedly engulfed in flames, are being sought.

Four were the occupants of the small aircraft, A CESSNA 182 two pilots and two passengers. According to Capital News, the victims were all citizens who were on the road when the plane hit. The people on the plane were reportedly injured but alive.
According to the authorities, the plane had been chartered for flying lessons and the third victim is said to be the headmaster of a nearby school, while the 3 crew members are not in life-threatening danger, admitted to the Tawfiq hospital. There are three confirmed victims. The plane reportedly lost altitude after take-off for causes that are still to be verified. This is the most serious accident ever near the Malindi airport.
