A 12-month renovation with understandable inconveniences, especially for departing passengers, will bring Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport up to improved standards.
What better time than now to begin a long overdue redevelopment that will cost nearly 10 million euros.
The Kenya Airports Authority has warned travellers that there will be inconveniences during the period of the work, asking those departing to arrive at the airport at least four hours before their departure time.
Terminals 1B and 1C will be particularly affected. Check-in services, security, ticketing and sales operations and lounge areas for departing passengers will be improved. Temporarily, airlines that have always operated from these terminals will be relocated to 1A and 2.
The release, which was made public by the media, explains that once the modernisation of the departure terminals is complete, the international airport will have world-class dining areas, improvements in technology, and generally hold itself to adjusting the layover and waiting experience to the highest quality standards.
