The upgrade of Watamu and its surroundings in terms of facilities and services, immersed in the wonder of landscapes completely immersed in marine nature, ecosystems and many different scenarios, is now a fact that is embellishing the "pearl of the Indian Ocean".
In this context, the latest arrival among luxury ecolodge is Matsangoni's Rockandsea.
On the western tip of Mida Creek, right in front of Short Beach and Temple Point Watamu, Rockandsea has been recently renovated and transformed with elegance and attention to detail.
From Watamu you can get there with a speed boat of the structure, from the Malindi-Mombasa road you arrive instead from the village of Matsangoni, following the signs. For the guests of the lodge or for those who book a special day, there is the possibility to organize the transfer from the airports of the coast with private minivans and a special welcome. From Watamu, by reservation, a bus will take you directly to the fast boat berth.
Rock and Sea is now a unique and exclusive place.
Unique starting from the position in which it rises, from where you can have a vision of the nature that surrounds it at three hundred and sixty degrees, from the Indian Ocean to the Mida Creek to the forest of Arabuko Sokoke and, in the distance, to the heights of Tsavo.
Beyond the creek and the world of mangrove coves and coral, rockandsea explores paradises of pristine beaches, small bays, fishing villages, a real and wild Africa far from civilization and still to be discovered, but also so close to Watamu and its services.
Rockandsea will soon be a Bubble Ecolodge, because in addition to the only suite for now present in the structure, will be built from early 2018 three fantastic rooms in transparent PVC, completely wrapped in nature and under the sky, except for the sleeping area.
Today the restaurant is one of the highlights of Rockandsea.
It is located on a rock overlooking the sea, from where you can see both sunrise and sunset.
Executive Chef Diego Tosi proposes a gourmet/fusion cuisine with dishes both in preparation and presentation that vary from Italian cuisine, North China, Japanese and South America.
Open daily for lunch and dinner every day by reservation, it is ideal for special and open occasions.
The aperitif at sunset is one of the strong points: in addition to the drink accompanied by finger food you can experience one of the most magical and unforgettable moments with colors, sounds and wonderful atmospheres.
The evening in the sky, with background jazz music, refined dishes and important labels, is another moment in which you can enjoy this exclusive but accessible to everyone.
There are various menu choices (à la carte, snack menus for those who want to have just a snack but always with original and tasty proposals, gourmet sandwich menus, and soon even Sunday brunch.  During your stay at the restaurant, there is also the possibility to take advantage of the splendid swimming pool, completely new, with three solariums. In the marvelous garden overlooking the ocean, you can enjoy birdwatching and enter a leisure area with billiards, darts and soon a tennis court as well as water sports facilities.
The resort now consists of only one suite.
The Baobab King Suite enjoys absolute privacy, nestled amidst trees and facing a centuries-old baobab. In the outdoor area, a bathtub has been carved into the root of a tree.
Another special feature of Rockandsea is its wonderful dhow,"Pepo Huru", a former traditional boat from historic regattas that won the Lamu competition a few years ago.
It is possible to book half-day or full day, sailing in the Indian Ocean and then enter the creek and enjoy an aperitif at sunset. Soft drinks, coffee on board, relaxation area, pampering and dedicated service for all needs. (Maximum eight people).
Among the unique, classy and respectful places of Africa and its Nature, the Rockandsea certainly deserves to be lived!
