EXHIBITION
02-12-2024 by Freddie del Curatolo
Not only compatriots, photography and African nature enthusiasts, but also many Kenyans and foreigners attended the personal exhibition of Italian nature photographer Paolo Torchio last weekend, to admire prints of some of his masterpieces, including ‘Temporale’, the shot of the leopard in the rain that won him this year's Nature Photo World Championship.
It was the right time to present to the general public in Nairobi the skill and knowledge of the savannah that has led Torchio, throughout a career spanning 30 years in Africa, to immortalise animals in their kingdom in unique poses and situations, but also to portray landscapes under special lights and with ingenious angles.
It was the Comites Kenya, with the collaboration of the Italian Embassy, that set up an exhibition that is now ready to migrate to the coast (in addition to the stages already planned, anyone can contact us for information on how and when it can be exhibited) and elsewhere. It is also worth mentioning that the pictures are for sale and that the proceeds will be used for good works and charitable actions through the fundraising efforts of Terre Solidali, a non-profit association committed to this purpose.
In the meantime, this two-day event has confirmed the beauty and elegance of an exhibition of which we are proud, as also recalled by Comites President Bruno Giachino, during the inauguration on Friday evening, which was attended by Embassy Deputy Head of Mission Lorenza Gambacorta, due to an unfortunate indisposition of Ambassador Roberto Natali.
Pomodoro's top-notch catering was also worth mentioning. For the occasion, Faustino and Lorenza of the well-known restaurant, pizzeria and delicatessen at the Village Market, gave their best, delighting the guests.
Initiatives to be repeated for sure, also with the help of private sponsors, as happens everywhere, and still too little often in Kenya, among Italians.
