The art of Italian extra virgin olive oil and the art of opera marry in Malindi on Friday 5 January.
A marriage celebrated by the dynamic company Vinyasa, specialising in high quality Italian brands in the splendid and highly appropriate setting of the Malaika Malindi venue on the tourist town's seafront.
Special guests, in the name of ArteOlio, a 100% Italian organic EVO imported and distributed by Vinyasa, two great tenors of our country and one of the world's leading oil experts.
The decision to combine an evening of tasting an Italian excellence with ad hoc musical entertainment and a gourmet dinner does not come as a surprise.
'Experts say it is a masterpiece,' they explain from Vinyasa, talking about ArteOlio. 'In fact, we Italians need to go back to head work: that is, to work artfully. All of it. We once made the Sistine Chapel, we made wonders because there was vision, there was utopia, there was passion and the sacred fire of making'.
Hence the need to create a special event to present the precious new ArteOlio, which arrived on board a direct Rome-Mombasa flight, two days before Christmas, freshly bottled. The olives were picked and pressed in the days immediately before. Obtained in Maremma, in the Tuscan countryside near Braccagni, it could be described as an Etruscan oil, the Etruscans were right there in those fields near Grosseto. A good 500 years before Christ, the mythical King Porsenna was already producing olive oil!
Produced by ArteOlio. The largest olive oil investment in Italy in the last twenty years (700 hectares!), and certified as one of the best in the world by one of Italy's greatest experts, Aldo Mazzini, EU head-panelist and taster, author of numerous oil publications.
Accompanying an evening of high gastronomic standards, an unusual musical presence for the Malindian panorama, Claudio Mattioli and Max Barbolini, two tenors from the Modenese school of Pavarotti, will enliven the evening with excerpts from the most familiar opera known as Italian throughout the globe.
Director of the evening, in addition to the indefatigable Paul Taura, will always be Antonella Braccini, the Garibaldian owner of Malaika, herself a chef and organiser and above all an enlightened protagonist of the gastronomic revival of Malindi.
Oil tasting from 6 pm, followed by dinner (Kes. 2500 excluding drinks).
