Every Tuesday, our "semi-serious lessons in Kiswahili" continue, a non-academic and less demanding journey around the language spoken in Kenya and other East African nations.
After talking about how this native language spoken by over 150 million people in the world was born and how it has evolved, been decoded and how it is used by the local populations, we started with the pleasantries and the easiest way for us Italians to approach Kiswahili. In this episode we begin to explore the categories of vocabulary and the reasons for some verbal devices, such as doubling a word, which takes on a slightly different meaning or nuance.
In short, it's one thing to say "pole" and another to say "pole pole".
But we explain it all in the video below.
And don't forget to subscribe to the Malindikenya.net Youtube channel to follow not only our Kiswahili lessons but also our reports from all over Kenya and in-depth reports.
