After ban lifted, kenyans die on the road

20 choir singers killed in a reversed bus

Once the restrictions are over, Kenyans are again killing themselves on the roads of their country.
Since the total reopening of the country, which took place 40 days ago, there have already been 312 victims of road accidents, with the most serious occurring yesterday between Kitui and Mwingi, towns east of Nairobi.
A bus carrying a local gospel group hired to sing at a wedding, overturned at a bridge over the Enziu River, which the heavy rains have reduced to little more than a ford. The result was tragic: 20 people were killed, all the other occupants of the bus are in serious condition. Accidents are also on the increase in the evening hours in Nairobi and Mombasa, and in view of the coming weekend of the national Independence Day (December 12 is Jamhuri Day), the government has announced the reinforcement of speed controls, but above all of the licenses of all matatu who will move in those days, also in anticipation of a tightening during the Christmas vacations. Still to be confirmed instead the introduction, for all public services, of the compulsory vaccination passport for both carriers and transporters.
The deadline of December 21, which will apply to all adults coming from abroad, does not seem feasible to introduce the "green pass" everywhere or at least in key areas such as transport and tourism. A postponement to January is being considered, even if vaccinations do not proceed as quickly as imagined by the Ministry of Health, which hopes to be able to announce 10 million vaccinated by the end of the year.
