Farewell to Mario Mele, 'Mister Pata Pata' malindino

He was extradited 7 years ago for maxi-fraud in Italy

Those who have been frequenting Malindi and the Kenyan coast for many years cannot have forgotten that controversial, brilliant and in his own way likeable character Mario Mele. Arriving a few years earlier, in 2012, in the resort town with entrepreneurial proclamations and a waving professionalism in the field of night entertainment and discos, he launched into the construction of a 'cathedral' in the sand dunes of the Malindi Gulf beach.

After only two seasons, amidst failures, temporary closures, creativity, discreet women in cages and quarrels between 'Italian style' partners, his Pata Pata closed its doors, but the indomitable Mario launched into another adventure, 'Mario's Budda', a lounge bar with his trademark: leather sofas and women's thighs stuck on them. 'Hard worker' was said of him, while at the same time he opened a bar downstairs where at seven in the morning he was already 'on the dance floor' with breakfasts and proper coffee. Only to move upstairs in the evening to party and continue working like a madman.

A professional, even in tax fraud, according to the Italian tax authorities and the complaints of his employees: 17 million euro ended up who knows where and a denunciation for criminal conspiracy that allowed Interpol, with the help of the Kenyan police, to pick him up.
The Court of Nuoro had already sentenced him to four years imprisonment for documentary bankruptcy following the bankruptcy of two discotheques in Sardinia.
He was not helped by certain 'over-the-top' attitudes in Kenya and by flaunting his wealthy and pyrotechnic life a little too much.

A life of work but also of excesses that led him to pulmonary complications, undoubtedly aggravated by the stress of the years between pre-trial detentions and trials in his native Sardinia, for which, as reported this morning by the Unione Sarda, 'Mario Pata Pata' died at the age of just 62, after being hospitalised in Turin.
