The Kenyan with "flying shoes" breaks a world record

Kandie win Valencia half-marathon with an unbelivable time

07-12-2020 by redazione

After the world record of the national hero Eliud Kipchoge's marathon and his (non homologable) feat of falling under 2 hours in the traditional Olympic distance, Kenya retouches another world record, thanks to the 24-year-old Kibiwott Kandie who literally pulverised the men's half-marathon world record in Valencia, winning in 57 minutes and 32 seconds ahead of the reigning world champion, the Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo (who still set his best time and the new national record with 57'37"). The previous record belonged to another Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor, who stopped the stopwatch at 58'01" in September 2019, in Copenhagen. In fact, four athletes actually finished the Valencian race with times below the old world record: in addition to Kandie and Kiplimo, the feat was also achieved by the Kenyan Rhonex Kipruto (57'49") and Alexander Mutiso (57'59"). This is due not only to the perfect, cold and dry climate of the Spanish city, but also to the use of most athletes of "flying shoes", a new generation of shoes with carbon plates and super reinforced heel. With the help of technology, the great marathon runners of Sub-Saharan Africa, Ethiopian Kenyans and Ugandans can break any barrier, including the one dreamed of by Kipchoge himself, to run the marathon under 2 hours during an official competition.
