TOURISM
04-01-2023 by Freddie del Curatolo
Would you be able to spend two, three days and nights in an earthly paradise, far from civilization, immersed in nature without time or space...but also without internet connection and phone signal?
Three days of hiking, breathtaking views, beautiful animals in their natural habitat, sleeping in stilts among African trees...but without being able to "post" anything, taking pictures that you cannot throw into the social ether live. Would you make it?
Of course for anything there is the management satellite, connected to the rangers and authorities...but you, nothing!
Your digital ego, your virtual reality in which everything is exalted to the max to make friends and family participate, and even make them a little envious, goes to the kennel for a few days, in exchange for a dip into a dimension that used to be natural and that today almost everyone has forgotten.
What do you think?
According to an international survey based on luxury agencies, this is the latest tourism frontier of those who want to truly unplug, the so-called "digital detox travel."
In the special ranking that goes to find and reward the most relaxing and detoxifying places on the planet, Kenya is one of the most sought-after destinations along with neighboring Tanzania (leaving aside Antarctica and Svalbard Islands in Norway, of course...).
Notably, in 2022 the Koija Community Starbeds, a lodge located in the Naibunga Lower Community Conservancy in Laikipia County, was awarded.
And it is at this lodge consisting of four stilt houses on the Ewaso Nyro River, built by the Maasai community along the lines of their manyatta with locally available materials. The roof is half-covered, leaving the possibility of stargazing, with the moon the only source of light in the area, while the beds are equipped with wheels for those who want to easily transfer them to the veranda and sleep outdoors, with only the "defense" of a mosquito net. In this case (before it becomes a fad), "digital detox" is a luxury that is not yet high priced or unaffordable, quite the contrary! The Koija Community Starbeds costs 4,000 shillings per night per person (about 32 euros). But, sorry to many, no selfie!
