Another domestic flight airline abandons routes from Nairobi to all destinations in the country, including tourist destinations-
748 Air Services said that as of yesterday, Wednesday, March 1, it had suspended its passenger flight operations in Kenya in order to devote itself entirely to what has always been its "core business," namely humanitarian flights. 748 had already closed the Nairobi-Kisumu route last week, explaining that the business had not performed as expected.
Now CEO Moses Mwangi said it has also stopped flying "indefinitely" on Mombasa, Diani, Malindi, and Maasai Mara.
This surprise decision deprives Kenya's tourism connectivity of an important alternative, especially on the coast, to Kenya Airways' subsidiary Jambojet and Safarilink, after flights by Eastafrican and Fly540 failed last year.
In addition to decreasing flight options, schedules and connections, inevitably the loss of additional competition will only increase fares for travelers.
Those who used airline 748 paid an average of 11 thousand shillings for a round-trip flight from Nairobi to the coast, which was the lowest fare among those in circulation.
