At least 15 days of inconvenience and disruption are expected for travellers who have booked international and domestic flights with Kenya's national airline, Kenya Airways.
This is inferred from the statement sent to the media by the company's CEO, Alan Kilavuka, who explained that some flights may be grounded and others may be delayed, mainly due to shortages of spare parts.
"Our current flight schedule may be disrupted in the coming weeks, mainly due to problems in the global supply chain for aircraft spare parts. These problems are leading to an extension of the downtime of our aircraft for maintenance,' Kilavuka said, adding that however the company has already started working to restore normalcy as soon as possible.
Certainly, this problem is a bit more burdensome because it happens just before the peak season and the Christmas holidays, when many travellers, including Italians, have booked the Rome-Paris-Nairobi routes (some with additional connections to Mombasa) or even flights to the Kenyan capital in connection with Dutch KLM via Amsterdam.
"We anticipate that these circumstances may persist for about two weeks and we want to thank you in advance for your understanding and patience during this period. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities and we are committed to resolving these issues as quickly and efficiently as possible," continues the company's statement, which also advises customers to check flight schedule updates on the company's website and mobile apps.
"We are committed to providing you with timely information and support to help you overcome these potential difficulties," it stated.
