Not like the famous italian song: in Maasai Mara there is no "maraja" who could have given to the reserve of Kenya the small specimen of "polka dot zebra" photographed by the tourist guide and naturalist photographer Anthony Tira near Matira Bush Camp and unfortunately the story of the young specimen so rare may not have a happy ending as a summer song.
As you can see from the photo that is going around the net and social not only in Kenya, it is a brown zebra of no more than a week of age with many dots more or less wide instead of the classic black and white stripes.
"At first I thought it was a zebra that had been captured and painted or marked in a migration census - explained Tira - I was really confused when I first saw it".
However, on closer inspection, the tour guide realized that it was a zebra with a melanin disorder. The visibly weak Zebra attached itself to another femme zebra with the usual stripes, perhaps the mother. The discovery caused an influx of off-road vehicles in that area of the Mara with tourists and photographers looking for the incredible shot.
This was the first case in the Mara of a zebra as explained to Kenyan media by the wildlife expert at Matira Camp Parmale Lemein. However, Lemein quickly pointed out that, according to research, none of the zebras with such conditions in other parks in Africa unfortunately survived for more than six months after birth. Recently, Kenyans have also witnessed the birth of a white giraffe, born from a white mother, in the Ishaqbini-Hirola Community Conservancy, Garissa County.
