Another day without deaths from Covid-19 in a Kenya that is gradually returning to very low levels, more or less those recorded at the beginning of the pandemic, eleven months ago.
Yesterday, the percentage of positive swabs slightly exceeded 2%, although the number of swabs analysed has risen to 3,922, a sign that the Ministry of Health has not yet lowered its guard and that there are resources available to provide equipment in the laboratories.
The emergency is not over, therefore, but it is still between one hundred cases (yesterday, out of a greater number of results, the positive ones were 153, mostly asymptomatic).
The total number of cases registered in Kenya since the start of the pandemic has risen to 101,009, while deaths have remained steady at 1766.
Hospital discharges also continue, with 54 patients sent home yesterday and only 27 people in the country's intensive care units, 15 of whom are on supplementary oxygen and 12 on ventilatory support. A further 471 people are in the country's facilities with less serious problems and 1471 are in isolation at home. These numbers are really not very worrying, even if the global situation and the open borders advise maintaining a high level of attention. Other countries in the sub-Saharan area of Africa, which have recently relaxed restrictions and lowered their guard, have found themselves having to deal with a resurgence of the virus. Yesterday, for example, the deputy governor of the island of Zanzibar was hospitalised. In terms of national cases, three-fifths of the cases were registered in Nairobi and on the
three-fifths of the cases were registered in Nairobi and on the coast only 13 cases were reported in Mombasa County and 1 in Kilifi.
