326 cases out of 440. Even the latest bulletin issued by the Ministry of Health of Kenya testifies that Nairobi is now the hub of Covid-19 in the country, being also the county that performs more tampons.
But that is not the only reason.
In the capital lives more informed, wealthier and more caring people than in rural communities and on the coast. They are "city" people who, as in the rest of the civilized countries of the world, as soon as they detect a symptom attributable to Covid-19 they go to hospital or ask to be tested. This is unlikely to happen in other areas of the country, where swabs are only done when there are serious situations or when people with fever or other important symptoms are reported.
The emergency is continuous, because every day the percentage of positives for swabs performed is over 10%, sometimes just a little, sometimes even 15%.
But it is also a pandemic not so deadly for Kenya, as confirmed by President Kenyatta, with 1.6% of infected people losing their lives and half of them were already sick people with compromised health to whom the virus has simply given the so-called "coup de grace", while 90% of positives are asymptomatic.
The deaths in the last 24 hours were 5, bringing the total number of official deaths with Covid-19 to 285, while recoveries rose to 7833 after another 90 patients were discharged.
It should be noted that with the first five cases Baringo County becomes the forty-fifth out of forty-seven to have people infected with the virus in its territory.
Five also the cases of the day in Kilifi County, which on the coast join the 10 cases found in Mombasa but represent little in the general panorama.
In his speech at the State House on Monday, July 27, President Kenyatta urged citizens not to rest on the laurels of the low percentage of dangerous Coronavirus and called them to individual and collective responsibility.
