Covid.19 Kenya: here many quick recoveries

Many cases but only 50 are in ICU

25-07-2020 by redazione

The cases in Kenya are increasing compared to the swabs analysed, Nairobi remains a worrying hotspot but the good news comes from the confirmations of experts who note that there are always many quick recoveries, few seriously ill people and that 99% of deaths come from people already suffering from major diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and especially HIV.  According to reports by Health Director Francis Kuria, only 50 patients in the whole of Kenya are currently in intensive care.
There are more than a million AIDS patients in Kenya and, nostalgic for some of the drugs administered to them to get along with those for Covid-19, their condition is at risk.
Diabetics and alcoholics are also numerous among the deaths of Covid-19 in the country, which yesterday rose to 274 after 11 people were missing in 24 hours, including a child suffering from rickets.
For this reason, the Minister of Health has proposed to Parliament the draft decree to stop "pro tempore" the sale of alcohol in public places and consumption in public spaces.
The bulletin of Friday 24 July meanwhile recorded another 667 cases, bringing the total number of infections in Kenya to 16,268. Positives were detected by 5075 swabs, so about 12% of those tested contracted the virus.
"We noted that the vast majority of deaths with Covid-19 are people with previous problems such as diabetes, HIV and hypertension," confirmed the head of the Health Department, Mercy Mwangangi, at a press conference in Afya House.
The incidence of foreigners, who make up 2% of the newly infected, is also increasing.
As always, Nairobi and neighboring counties are taking the big slice of infected, while compared to yesterday there are cases on the coast (26 in Mombasa, 6 in Kilifi and 4 in Lamu).
As said, always many cured every 24 hours. On the last day, 311 patients were discharged, 145 of whom freed a bed in one of the dedicated health facilities.
