On 19 he will be awarded the 'Volterrani' prize

16-05-2023 by redazione

The director of the portal of Italians in Kenya, Alfredo "Freddie" del Curatolo, will receive the Volterrani "Narrare il mondo" Award on Friday 19 May at the Turin Book Fair, during the 2023 edition of Italy's most important book event, for his work in popularising Kenya in the Italian language and in particular for his latest literary work, "Nairobi" (Ed. OgZero) with images by Leni Frau.

The award ceremony will take place from 2 p.m. in the Sala Arancio of the Salone del Libro (Lingotto Fiere) and the award dedicated to one of the most important literary, artistic and anti-provincial animators of the Piedmontese cultural scene, Egisto Volterrani, will be presented by the Councillor for Tourism of the City of Turin, Domenico Carretta, with this motivation

Volterrani "Narrating the World" Award - "for having produced an unprecedented portrait of one of the world's most stimulating urban realities between skyscrapers and savannah without the deforming lenses of tourist conformism, with a peculiar photographic outfit edited by Leni Frau, sketching a fascinating description of an African capital with unique characteristics and a melting pot of heterogeneous and contradictory humanity that, with descriptive skill, overcomes the superficiality and stereotypes of the Western gaze".

Egisto Volterrani, 'Egi' to his friends, was the director of the Teatro Stabile di Torino for twenty years, since 1975, as well as having collaborated with art and culture magazines and been involved in a thousand other things. It is worth mentioning, among many others, his work as a translator, especially of almost all the works of the Moroccan writer Tahar Ben Jelloun. Volterrani passed away in 2017, shortly before his 80th birthday.
Needless to say how honoured we are to receive a prize named in his memory.
